AACR Congratulates Newest Members of the National Academy of Sciences

Among those recognized are seven members of the AACR

PHILADELPHIA — The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) congratulates its seven members who have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, including the following six Fellows of the AACR Academy: Mary C. Beckerle, PhD; Lieping Chen, MD, PhD; Alan D’Andrea, MD; Olufunmilayo I. Olopade, MD; M. Celeste Simon, PhD; and Eileen White, PhD.

Election to the National Academy of Sciences recognizes distinguished and continuing achievements in original research, and is one of the highest honors a scientist can receive. The Academy elected a total of 120 new members and 30 international associates from 18 countries this year.

Six Fellows of the AACR Academy Elected to the National Academy of Sciences

• Mary C. Beckerle, PhD, chief executive officer and director, Huntsman Cancer Institute; and distinguished professor of biology and associate vice president for cancer affairs, University of Utah, Salt Lake City

• Lieping Chen, MD, PhD, United Technologies Corporation Professor in Cancer Research and professor, Departments of Immunobiology, Dermatology, and Medicine (medical oncology), Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut

• Alan D’Andrea, MD, The Fuller-American Cancer Society Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology, Harvard Medical School; and director, Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston

• Olufunmilayo I. Olopade, MD, Walter L. Palmer Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine and Human Genetics, Department of Medicine, and director, Center for Clinical Genetics and Global Health, University of Chicago, Chicago
