Cancer Death Rate Dropped in 2015

A new government report shows that among the top 10 causes of death in the United States, the death rate for cancer was the only one to decline in 2015.

The cancer death rate in the United States declined in 2015 compared with 2014. In fact, cancer was the only one of the 10 leading causes of death for which the death rate decreased, according to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Despite this good news, the CDC report shows that 595,930 people in the United States died of cancer in 2015. This makes cancer the second leading cause of death in the United States, a position it has held behind heart disease for many years now.

So, even while cancer bucked the trend among the top 10 causes of death in the United States, it is essential that we continue to work together to accelerate the pace of progress to ensure that the cancer death rate remains on a downward trajectory in the coming years.
