A Childhood Cancer Survivor Shares Her Story
Krista Holmes has come a long way. A survivor of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma when she was a toddler, she is now a vibrant young professional who dedicates her spare time to supporting cancer research.
This weekend, as thousands of runners lace up their shoes for the AACR Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon and 5K, Krista will be among them. She’s an Ambassador for the American Association for Cancer Research Runners for Research team, raising money to support cancer research and the quest for cures.
It’s an apt time for Krista to share her story, which she did in a recent blog for philly.com. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and in her blog, Krista reflects on how fortunate she was to survive, and how research has led to an improved prognosis for many children diagnosed with cancer.
