Jagat J. Mukherjee, PhD, AACR member since 2002, died January 24, 2014, at the age of 62. Mukherjee was a research scientist at the State University of New York (SUNY) Research Foundation in the Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry Laboratory in the Great Lakes Center at SUNY Buffalo State.
Mukherjee’s research focused on the promotion of tumors by environmental contaminants, such as tobacco smoke.
Born in Sreerampur, India, Mukherjee received bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from the University of Calcutta, India, and completed postdoctoral work at the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor. Before coming to SUNY in 2001, he had worked in India; the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada; the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio; and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
