Jui Hsin Wang, PhD, emeritus member of the AACR, died January 17, 2016, at the age of 94. Wang was the Einstein professor of science emeritus at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
He joined the faculty at the University at Buffalo, where he founded and directed the Bioenergetics Laboratory, in 1972 and worked until his retirement in 2006. Wang was a biochemical researcher who focused on the design and synthesis of inhibitors that act as antiviral and anticancer agents.
Born March 16, 1921, in Beijing, Wang received a bachelor’s degree from National Southwest Associated University in Kunming, China. He moved to the United States and received a doctoral degree from Washington University in St. Louis, where he also completed a postdoctoral fellowship, and then became a research fellow and Eugene Higgins professor of chemistry and molecular biophysics at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Wang received an honorary master’s degree from Yale and was a Guggenheim Fellow at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.
Wang first joined the AACR in 2004 as an active member and transferred to emeritus membership in 2011.
