AACR Past President, Scientists and Cancer Survivors Serve as Thought Leaders for The Atlantic’s “People v. Cancer”
WHAT:
On Tuesday, November 12, The Atlantic will present “People v. Cancer,” a live event in which the collective oncology community will discuss what it means to live with cancer today. As the world’s first and largest cancer research organization, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is proud to support several renowned researchers and compelling patient advocates who will contribute to the program.
AACR Past President Raymond DuBois, MD, will lead a conversation titled “Driving Progress Against Cancer,” detailing how research is the foundation of the lifesaving clinical advances and public policy initiatives designed to improve the health of the nation. Charles Graeber, author of the critically acclaimed book The Breakthrough, will moderate the talk.
In addition, AACR Scientist↔Survivor Program Scientist Mentors Emil Lou, MD, and Brian Rivers, PhD, will participate in a panel discussion with cancer survivors Aime Franco, PhD, and Col. (Ret) James E. Williams Jr. on the need for scientists and survivors to work together to enhance patient advocacy and patient engagement in cancer research. The panelists also will look at the impact the AACR’s Scientist↔Survivor Program has had on bringing these groups together. The panel, titled “Collaborations Against Cancer: Patients Partnering with Scientists,” will be moderated by ABC News health and science reporter Erin Schumaker.
