John A.R. “Tony” Mead, PhD, a longtime member of the AACR, died February 20, 2023, at the age of 92.
Mead was born in 1930 in England. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Liverpool University and a PhD in biochemistry from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London.
Mead joined the staff of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 1957. After beginning his long NIH career with the National Heart Institute, he then took a position at the National Cancer Institute. He retired as chief of the NCI’s Grants and Contracts Operations Branch.
Mead became a member of the AACR in 1964.
