Party with a Purpose Gala Raises Lifesaving Funds for Pediatric Cancer Research
WHAT:
On Sunday, October 29, the Friends of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Foundation will host the 20th annual Party with a Purpose gala in Philadelphia to raise lifesaving funds for cancer research. This year’s event has raised more than $221,000 and is dedicated to pediatric cancer research.

WHO:
The gala will honor the following individuals:
- John M. Maris, MD, will be awarded the Scientific Achievement Award for his pioneering research on neuroblastoma and other childhood cancers. Maris is co-head of the Pediatric Cancer Dream Team and the Giulio D’Angio Chair in Neuroblastoma Research at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
- Timothy Spear, MD, PhD, will receive the Early-Career Investigator research grant. Spear is a pediatric hematology/oncology fellow at CHOP.
- Beverly Fassler Goldberg will be honored with the Humanitarian Award for her tireless efforts in raising funds for cancer research. Goldberg is the past president of the Friends of the AACR Foundation.
