AACR Resources and Experts Available for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

PHILADELPHIA – In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) has compiled the following resources to support and facilitate reporting on this important topic.

AACR CANCER PROGRESS REPORTS

The AACR’s recent Cancer Progress Report and Cancer Disparities Progress Report have numerous resources on breast cancer, including:

  • Graphics on breast cancer statistics and disparities are available for reporters to download and use in stories.
  • The reports feature several compelling stories from breast cancer survivors:
    • Lourdes Monje was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer at only 25 years old. After surgery and radiation, Lourdes participated in a clinical trial of an investigational therapeutic that has given them new hope. Read their story.
    • Melissa Adams was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma. Because she lives in Hawai’i, she faced barriers to treatment and participating in clinical trials. She is living with the disease and focusing on helping others through her work in advocacy. Read her story.
    • Katrece Nolan was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. In Katrece’s journey, she had to advocate for herself every step of the way to get the care she needed. She wrote a book highlighting the knowledge and resources she gathered to empower cancer patients. Read her story.
