AACR Resources and Experts Available for National Cancer Prevention Month

PHILADELPHIA – February is National Cancer Prevention Month. To support and facilitate reporting on this important topic, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) has compiled the following resources about cancer prevention from the AACR’s blog, scientific journals, and annual Cancer Progress Report.

CANCER RESEARCH CATALYST

The official blog of the AACR, Cancer Research Catalyst, published a post today highlighting recent studies that found some people may lack a certain level of clarity and/or awareness about some cancer prevention techniques such as screening and vaccination:

Another timely post discusses improving HPV vaccine uptake and cervical cancer screening:

Finally, Robert A. Winn, MD, FAACR, director and Lipman Chair in Oncology at VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared his thoughts on achieving health equity through cancer prevention and screening in this post:

We invite you to use these posts in your reporting. Please cite the American Association for Cancer Research and provide a link to the post.

AACR SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS

The AACR publishes 10 peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention and Cancer Prevention Research, featuring leading-edge research in the field. Recent articles on cancer prevention include:

  • AACR Journal Collection: Diet, Exercise, and Lifestyle
    • This collection highlights recent articles exploring some of the mechanisms that explain why a change in diet or exercise might translate into a lower chance of developing cancer, or an improved prognosis following cancer treatment.
    • The AACR’s blog highlighted some of these journal articles in a post.
  • News Release: Few Americans are Aware of Links Between Alcohol and Cancer Risk
    • This study found that many Americans are unaware of the fact that consuming alcoholic beverages of any kind increases the risk of developing cancer, and some incorrectly think that drinking reduces the risk.
    • The AACR’s blog highlighted this research in a post on Dry January.

In addition to these articles, the AACR public relations team can provide journalists with access to any articles published in AACR journals. Please contact Kathleen Venango at [email protected] with article requests.
