AACR Partners with NBC10 and Telemundo62 for Progress and Promise Against Cancer as part of the AACR Philadelphia Marathon

World’s leading cancer research experts from Philadelphia’s largest health care and academic institutions will unite for a live, interactive broadcast to answer viewer’s questions about advancements in cancer research

PHILADELPHIA: In an unprecedented collaborative effort with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the AACR Philadelphia Marathon, NBC10 and Telemundo62 will host Progress and Promise Against Cancer Day, a live, interactive broadcast Thursday, Nov. 8, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET. The event marks the first time that AACR members, many of the world’s leading cancer research experts representing seven of the region’s largest health care and academic institutions, will come together to answer viewers’ questions about breakthroughs and advancements in cancer research spanning prevention, early detection and diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

“We are fortunate to have many of the world’s leading medical experts in the field of cancer research right here in the Greater Philadelphia region,” said Anzio Williams, vice president of news for NBC10 and Telemundo62. “Our goal is to use our multiple platforms on-air and online, to educate, inspire, and spark conversation in two languages about breakthroughs and advancements in cancer.”

More than 20 distinguished AACR-member physicians and scientists specializing in various types of cancer will take questions, in English and Spanish, from viewers who can call, email, text, or tweet their questions during the program.

These AACR members treat patients and conduct research at Philadelphia’s leading institutions including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Drexel College of Medicine, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, Lankenau Institute for Medical Research at Main Line Health, Penn Medicine, and The Wistar Institute. Joining the experts, the AACR has also convened survivor advocates to engage with viewers, learn about their cancer journeys, and share their own.

NBC10 and Telemundo62 will also air news stories leading up to the Nov. 8 broadcast about breakthroughs in cancer research led by Philadelphia cancer experts, which have resulted in practice-changing treatments for patients worldwide, as well as inspiring stories about AACR survivor advocates who have benefited from lifesaving cancer research.
