World Cancer Day: Get the Facts

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is proud to support World Cancer Day, a yearly initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

Each February 4, World Cancer Day serves as a rallying cry to raise awareness of the global battle against cancer and of the need for government leaders to make cancer research, prevention, and treatment a national priority. The World Cancer Day slogan, “We Can. I Can,” is a reminder that everyone, whether in a collective group or as individuals, can play a part in reducing the global burden of cancer.

The message of World Cancer Day dovetails with the AACR’s own mission to prevent and cure cancer through research, education, communication, and collaboration. The AACR’s 40,000 members now come from 120 countries. Our scientific journals publish research from cancer scientists around the world, and our grants program provides opportunities for researchers like Mubarak Labaran Liman to travel to the AACR Annual Meeting to draw on the vast wealth of knowledge presented there.

The AACR also hosts meetings with international partners, such as the ECCO-AACR-EORTC-ESMO Workshop on Methods in Clinical Cancer Research, set for June 2018 in Zeist, Netherlands. Later in 2018, the AACR will host or play a role in workshops and meetings in Montreal, Canada; Kyoto, Japan; Sydney, Australia; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Jerusalem, Israel; Dublin, Ireland; Seoul, South Korea; and Brussels, Belgium.
