Anil K. Rustgi, MD, is director of the NCI-designated Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital. As Irving professor of medicine, Dr. Rustgi is a leader in gastrointestinal oncology, with his lab research focused on tumor initiation, microenvironment, and metastasis in the context of esophageal, pancreatic, and colon cancers, all of which is NIH/NCI funded. He has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, and the Association of American Physicians and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has been designated as American Cancer Society professor and previously served as president of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), editor-in-chief of Gastroenterology, president of the International Society of Gastroenterological Carcinogenesis, and president of the American Pancreatic Association.
