Dr. Newman is an internationally renowned breast surgeon and researcher. She was appointed chief of the Section of Breast Surgery at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine — where she was recruited as a professor of surgery — in August 2018. At the New York-Presbyterian David H. Koch Center, Dr. Newman leads a multidisciplinary breast oncology program, dedicated to providing individualized, cutting-edge care. She also supervises the Breast Surgical Oncology Program at New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and New York-Presbyterian Queens. She is the founding medical director for the International Center for the Study of Breast Cancer Subtypes, now part of Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian. She also oversees an international breast cancer research and training program based at Weill Cornell Medicine, which involves a network of physicians and facilities in Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uganda, Canada, and the Caribbean islands. Dr. Newman has been an expert advisor to various associations and is currently an advisory board member for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
