Malignant transformations are often associated with autoimmunity induction and the generation of autoantibodies. Conversely, chronic inflammation can promote malignant transformation. Moreover, immunotherapies such as checkpoint blockade can provoke autoimmunity and immunoregulatory therapies used for inflammatory diseases can predispose to malignancy. This AACR Special Conference will focus on the mechanisms responsible for cancer immunity and autoimmunity and the intersection of these two diseases. Special focus will be placed upon the role of genetics, epigenetics, microbiome, immune cell subsets, innate immune pathways, and leveraging therapeutic developments across these diseases.
