The AACR Integrative Molecular Epidemiology Workshop is a transformative, week-long program designed to advance the skills of early-career researchers in molecular cancer epidemiology. With over 400 researchers trained since its inception, this workshop bridges the gaps between genetics, molecular markers, exposures, and advanced molecular methods. It fosters collaboration across disciplines such as epidemiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, and molecular biology.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in refining study designs, integrating omics technologies, geospatial data, and epidemiological methods to uncover insights into cancer etiology, prevention, and outcomes. The workshop emphasizes practical applications of cutting-edge tools while focusing on reproducibility, study feasibility, and quality control. Researchers will also engage in discussions on overcoming barriers to cancer health equity, including diversity in clinical trials and data collection.

Designed for emerging molecular epidemiologists, clinicians, statisticians, bioinformaticians, and researchers from allied fields, the workshop cultivates both technical expertise and a collaborative, forward-thinking mindset. Continuing to shape the future of cancer research, this workshop plays a key role in developing a diverse, skilled biomedical workforce. Join us to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, advancing cancer research through team science and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Comments from previous attendees:

  • Interaction between attendees and faculty was fantastic! The whole workshop had a very positive, collaborative feel.
  • This course exceeded my expectations. It had a great balance between theory and practice.
  • I really enjoyed the breadth of the presentations and felt like I got an introduction all/most aspects of molecular epidemiology, which is what I was hoping for. I also appreciated the opportunities to meet and interact with the faculty and other attendees, which was more than I expected.
  • I met more experts in integrative molecular epidemiology including epidemiologists, pathologists, and genetists. I also knew more fellows in population cancer research who are interested in implementing integrative epidemiology methods. I also talked to a potential post-doc mentor for a research fellow opportunity.
  • Thanks for a great workshop! I really appreciate the hard work of the organizers and the faculty to make it possible. Everyone was extremely generous with their time and expertise. All the conversations over lunch + dinner were just as valuable as the seminars. Would definitely recommend this workshop to other early-career scientists.
