On November 14, 2018, the AACR was proud to serve as a presenting underwriter for People v. Cancer, an interactive summit convened to harness the power of human stories to highlight the latest advances in cancer research. Researchers, clinicians, and patients came together in New York City to discuss cancer research, treatment, care, and advocacy to explore how the oncology community is investing its resources, energy, and talent in the collective fight to conquer cancer.

The program covered a variety of topics ranging from immunotherapy and personalized medicine, to cancer health disparities, patient advocacy, and cancer survivorship. The AACR was well represented during the summit, which featured 2018-2019 AACR President Elizabeth Jaffee, MD, AACR past presidents Michael Caligiuri, MD, and Nancy Davidson, MD, many distinguished members, and patient advocates who spoke during a variety of presentations, panels, and breakout sessions throughout the day.

During a special session titled “Innovative Approaches to Accelerating Progress Against Cancer,” Jaffee discussed the latest advances in cancer research with Neil Canavan, journalist and author of A Cure Within: Scientists Unleashing the Immune System to Kill Cancer. She explained how the AACR is advancing progress against cancer by bringing together the greatest minds in cancer research on initiatives like AACR Project GENIE, convergence science, cancer health disparities, cancer survivorship, and serving as the Scientific Partner of Stand Up To Cancer.

In addition to participating in the program, the AACR hosted an exhibit booth to further educate attendees about cancer by offering additional information like the AACR Cancer Progress Report and Cancer Today magazine. Attendees were also encouraged to take an interactive cancer quiz to test their knowledge on what they learned about cancer and cancer research throughout the day.
