Organizations, Agencies, and Websites

Sources of information and support within the cancer community can sometimes seem hard to find, and at other times the options are overwhelming. We’ve organized more than a hundred resources here to make it easier for you to identify the information, services and assistance you’re trying to find. Search below for information on cancer-related nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, government agencies, research and professional organizations, and informational websites.

Jamaica Cancer Society

The Jamaica Cancer Society works to reduce the impact of cancer in Jamaica through education, cancer screening, counseling and emotional support. The society operates a clinic at which patients can be screened for cervical, breast and prostate cancer. The clinic also provides selected diagnostic and treatment services. Call for the clinic’s hours or to schedule an appointment.

Kidney Cancer Association

The Kidney Cancer Association funds research, educates families and physicians, and advocates for patients. It provides information on treatment options, clinical trials, and disease facts. It distributes several publications, including the Kidney Cancer Journal. The Kidney Cancer Association also sponsors educational meetings throughout the year.

Know Cancer

Know Cancer has created an environment where members of the global cancer community interact and learn together to find the information, support, and resources they need to overcome their illness. The site hosts the world’s largest online directory of cancer resources (from cancer treatment centers to yoga centers), an information section with more than 400 articles, cancer news, the Know Cancer Blog, and an interactive online community complete with an Ask the Expert column.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provides a variety of services for newly diagnosed and long-term survivors, while also supporting basic and translational research on blood-related cancers. The organization’s website hosts several discussion boards and offers many resources that include news, event listings and treatment and clinical trial information. LLS also offers information about how to become an advocate. The society provides support to adults and children with cancer as well as to caregivers. It publishes informational booklets in English, Spanish and French.

Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation

The Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation offers financial assistance to women in the Philadelphia region who are undergoing breast cancer treatment. The foundation provides free and low-cost mammograms to uninsured and under-insured women. The Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation also offers women and their families informational materials and access to cancer detection and treatment resources. The organization’s Rainbow Circle addresses the needs of lesbian, bisexual and transgender breast cancer survivors. The Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation also runs Safe Circle, a program for African-American women.

Livestrong Foundation

The Livestrong Foundation seeks to promote the optimal physical, psychological and social recovery and care of cancer survivors and their loved ones. Livestrong focuses its activities on survivorship education and resources, community programs, national advocacy initiatives, and scientific and clinical research grants. The organization’s website features a variety of information and resources for people living with cancer.

Living Beyond Breast Cancer

Living Beyond Breast Cancer offers educational programs and services to women and families affected by breast cancer. Its programs include a toll-free Survivors’ Helpline (1-888-753-5222), a free quarterly newsletter, publications for African-American and Latina women, and networking programs for young survivors and women of color.

Lung Cancer Alliance

The Lung Cancer Alliance advocates on behalf of lung cancer patients, survivors, families and caregivers. It provides information on clinical trials, treatment options and patient advocacy. Its programs also include a peer-to-peer support network, and toll-free information and referral services for people with lung cancer and their caregivers.

Lung Cancer Research Foundation

In 2015, the original Lung Cancer Research Foundation and Uniting Against Lung Cancer merged to form the Foundation as it is today.

Both organizations were born out of personal connections to the disease and a belief that innovative research is key to ridding the world of lung cancer. Since inception, LCRF and UALC have funded hundreds of grants across the spectrum of basic, clinical and translational research at leading medical institutions around the world. As a result of this funding, grant recipients have received significant follow-on funding from the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health and American Cancer Society, among others.

Lungcancerforeningen Stodet

Lungcancerforeningen Stodet is an organization that provides information and support for lung cancer patients, and also advocates for increased funding for lung cancer research. The organization, operated by lung cancer survivors, publishes a bimonthly magazine and operates a toll-free hotline for patients seeking information or support.
