Internationally recognized as an advocate of worldwide scientific collaboration, Dr. Piccart is one of the foremost researchers in the fields of clinical trials and drug development, primarily concerning breast cancer. Her research interests include optimizing genetic profiling of breast cancer subtypes to enhance cancer diagnosis techniques and to improve treatment strategies and regimens.
Dr. Piccart has established multiple international avenues to facilitate collaboration within cancer research. In 1996, she founded the Brussels-based Breast International Group (BIG), focused on fostering internationally collaborative clinical trials, and also established the more translational cancer research-based organization, TRANSBIG. Together, these groups have formed multi-national and multi-institutional trial collaborations, which have led to more robust and clinically meaningful trials.
