Beatrice Mintz
Beatrice Mintz, PhD, a Fellow of the AACR Academy and a trailblazing pioneer in multiple fields of cancer biology, died January 3, 2022, at the age of 100.
Jorge Ortega, MD
Dr. Jorge Ortega, MD, passed away May 1, 2022, at the age of 91.
Donald P. Pinkel
Donald P. Pinkel, MD, who pioneered lifesaving cancer treatment for childhood leukemia patients and helped found St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, died Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at the age of 95.
John Edward Porter
Congressman John Edward Porter passed away Friday, June 3, at the age of 87.
Mary (Dicey) Jackson Scroggins
Mary (Dicey) Jackson Scroggins, MA, who survived ovarian cancer and went on to become a powerful patient advocate with an extraordinary passion for ending cancer health disparities, died August 1, 2022, at the age of 72.
Raymond J. Shamberger
Dr. Raymond J. Shamberger, PhD, passed away July 2, 2022, at the age of 87.
Hiroshi Shiku
Hiroshi Shiku, MD, PhD, an immunologist whose work helped establish the foundation of cancer immunotherapy, died September 4, 2022, at the age of 79.
Lucius F. Sinks
Lucius F. Sinks, MD, a prominent and longtime AACR member, died June 3, 2022, at the age of 91.
Lewis M. Slater
Lewis M. Slater, MD, passed away on August 21, 2022, at the age of 85. He was a former professor of medicine and pathology in the Department of Medicine at the UCI School of Medicine. Dr. Slater studied cancer chemotherapy, tumor immunology, lung cancer, leukemia and lymphoma. His research was related to tumor immunology and focused on tumor cell modification and pharmacologic methods to promote tumor immunity.
Michael B. Sporn
Michael B. Sporn, MD, a Fellow of the AACR Academy who was a pioneer in chemoprevention of cancer, died September 29, 2022, at the age of 89.
